FAQ

  • Where are you located?

I shoot out of my home in Long Island City! Lots of trains are near by, the closest one is a 2 minute walk away. Tons of parking.

  • Can I bring a friend?

If you're under 18, you must bring a parent or guardian. If you want to bring a friend, I have found sometimes this helps you relax. But majority of the time it prevents us from getting into a groove. So, I don’t encourage bringing a friend.

  • What's your reschedule/cancellation/no show policy?

We are actors and sometimes that means, we booked a role and they need you on set next week. First, congrats! Or maybe you got sick the day before. I do have a one time reschedule up to 48 hours in advance policy. No shows and cancellation will forfeit their deposit.

  • But, wait! You're an actor too?! What happens if you book a role.

This is one advantage I have over other photographers. I'm in the game with you! I can talk..."actor talk." This is also why I'm not charging over $1,000 like other photographers. So -The same policy as if you booked a role. I'll give you a proper heads-up and we'll find a time to reschedule. Generally, it's still very close to the original date.

  • Do you allow reshoots?

I, generally, do not do reshoots. As we shoot - it's a very collaborative process. You're giving the thumbs up as we go. You'll see shots (Yes, you'll look at yourself). You'll see it all. Giving you the power and the responsibility and comfort that we are capturing what you're looking for.

  • How do I get my photos?

After the shoot I will send you a link with instructions to a watermarked photo gallery where you can decide which photos you want to purchase. If you purchased for me to pick shots as well, those will be included when you get the photo gallery. After you decided to which shots you want. Send me an email with the file numbers. From there you will receive an invoice for payment and then allow up to 7 business days to receive the edited photos. Once you approve the final edited photos you will receive them in a web and print format.

  • What do you suggest about Hair and Makeup.

I strongly recommend Hair and Makeup. It helps with the editing process, keeping your skin tone even, hiding blemishes and more.

I will say some men don’t need it.

    Women - $275

    Men (Grooming) - $175

  • Who are your Hair and Makeup Artists?

They are individuals who I trust and know how I like to work. We work together to make sure you’re looking your best and apply makeup that suits my style of shooting which is why I don’t allow you to bring your own makeup artist.

Here are a few that you’ll see in the studio with me.

    Kaley Were

    Bridie Coughlan

    Stephanie Rapai

  • What do I wear?

For an actor this can be challenging but remember it’s you who makes the picture the clothes just add the little details. With that being said, think about the character. What would this character wear? Now, I’m not saying go and get a police outfit or a white coat. That’s a no. But if it is a cop or doctor, what would that character wear when they are not in uniform.

    Some rules:

Avoid black and white - however this rule can be broken.

Avoid patterns - however this rule can be broken

Absolutely no graphic t-shirts, white coats, police uniforms, so forth.

Here’s a site that is incredibly helpful, it shows you what characters in shows are wearing. A great place to get inspired. I’m not saying go out and buy clothing. You probably already have what you need. This is just to give you an idea of what works on camera. Worn On Tv

Also! if you still need help, hire a professional stylist. Ask Your Sister by Mary Claire King

Mary is brilliant and knows the industry spending years in Chicago on Broadway.

  • Where do I study?

I’m often asked this question remarkably, as well if I teach. So I’ll answer it.

No, I don’t teach. But I am always studying. I believe one should not stick with the same coach forever until a certain level. The reason being is in the beginning don’t learn one route of acting, learn several and then fuse your own style - creating how you approach acting. Then! Maybe you stick with one coach.

So, places you may see me at in the past

    Matt Newton Studios
